About Me

I’ve been drawing since an early age inspired by comics, films and roleplaying games, and by my Dad. My parents walls are covered in my Dad’s oil and watercolour landscapes and portraits, I was always encouraged to draw. I spent most of my teenage years collecting 2000AD, and trying to copy people like Glenn Fabry, Bryan Talbot, Simon Bisley and Brian Bolland.

I started designing motion graphics for television 18 years ago, producing animation and motion graphics for commercials, programmes and corporate videos, and currently co-own a television production and post production company called 4×4 based in Belfast.

My interest in drawing was revived a few years ago, and I now sketch as much as I can, as well as concentrating on my day job. For my 2d illustration, I mostly work digitally on Photoshop, Painter or Artrage and a Wacom tablet, but still do a lot of my thumbnailing and sketching with pencil and paper. I have also recently started working my pen and ink. For my motion graphics work and 3d, I use a wide variety of software, including Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Blender, Mocha, Illustrator. I occasionally play around with other software like Gimp, Sculptris, Alchemy or Pencil, as well as iPhone Apps such as Brushes, Layers, Colors or Sketchbook.

Just this year I had my first work published when I produced all the artwork in a deck of cards for the CCG, Conflicting Kingdoms. Im also currently working on a promotional comic for the same deck. I specialise in fantasy and horror character and creature design, but have a wide spectrum of related ability. I’m always open to commissions. For more info contact al[dot]starfox[at]gmail[dot]com.
